The Joys of Motherhood

It's amazing. One moment you're trying to find the right size diapers for them and the next you're reading their work online. Where does the time go? I discovered tonight that my youngest son Nate has joined the blogging world and also that his entry into that arena is quite wonderful. I've been reading Paul's blogs for several months and it was actually his writings that encouraged me to share my thoughts. I'm still trying, but I do love reading their works. Mothering boys is a task that I have never taken lightly. It has been an overwhelming effort that I gladly accepted in 1981 and continue to embrace daily.

Biblical examples of mothering sons quickly come to mind, but trying to find one with a happy ending creates somewhat of a challenge. Eve, Leah, Rachel, Rebecca, Naomi, & Mary... all suffered great wounds to their hearts with their sons. Some of the heart wounds came from blows of the sons and others from the blows to their sons. Then I think of Timothy's mother and grandmother, Eunice and Lois . Surely they must have been proud of Timothy as he grew and emulated the lessons from the Holy Scripture that they had worked so hard to instill in his life. He was a young man when Paul took him and started training him to preach, but the lessons that he had learned at the knees of his mother and grandmother were the ones that endeared him to Paul and enabled him to be his helper in the mission fields.

Often "stay at home" mothers are looked down on because they don't "work" outside the home and help their husbands. However, try to price the joy in a mother's heart when her sons grow into spirtual young men and bless her. I guess I've said all this to say, I'm proud of my sons and I'm thankful to have them around to remind me of why I stayed home so long.

I enjoy your three rowdy ones as well, Auntie E.
It's funny--I used to be one of those people who look down their noses at stay-at-home moms. Now, I know that when I have kids, I'm going to stay at home with them as long as possible. I can't imagine any other life, and I look forward to it. :o)
